Kings Seeds Commercial
Kings Seeds was established in 1888 by Ernest William King. He was born in Coggeshall in 1869. After being refused employment at his grandfathers seed company, E.W King started his own seed company at the age of 19. The premise was a small shop in Market End, Coggeshall, and the business has thrived ever since!
Essex has been the centre of English seed production for many centuries. Its climate and rainfall are ideal for raising plants and taking them through the growing cycle to obtain the highest quality of seed. Kings Seeds are now based in Monks Farm in Kelvedon, just down the road from the orginal premise. A selection of Sweet Pea seeds are still grown on the farm in Essex.
We have been selecting and maintaining seed stocks longer than most. We supply seed to commercial growers of flowers and vegetables, wholesale to large users of seed and to the home gardener through our seed packets. Whichever type of customer Kings are supplying they all have one thing in common; they all receive the same fine quality seed. We supply genuine stock and not a look-alike, cheaper alternative. All our seeds are carefully selected and cared for by our Horticultural Director, Andrew Tokely, who has been in the horticultural industry for over 40 years.
We also offer a range of organic seeds, certified by the Organic Soil Association, and supply a range of Tozer Seeds and Gourmet Genetics Seeds. We have a well-equipped laboratory under the management of our qualified analyst who tests our seed for germination, vigor and purity to meet the legal standards. As we are totally independent, privately owned company, and not influenced by outside forces, we are in a unique position to be able to select and offer the very best possible seed range available
There have been many changes over the hundred years of our company’s existence and there will be many more in the next hundred, but quality of the highest standard is one thing that has never changed at Kings, and never will in the future.
